The Beginning

The beginning
Studied and eventually become mechanical engineering (Teknik Mesin) in Indonesia can be so hard. We studied seriously about thermodynamic, Structure, mechanical fluid, force, production, metallurgy and vibration but sadly people always related us to car mechanic, thus the question "can you fix my car" have become the most irritating question for us mechanical engineer.
Although that's nothing wrong for being car mechanic, we just concern with the reality that many people just doesn't have the right information.

that's why back when we're still in college, we are always anxious to give the right information to Indonesian people, thus magazine or similar publication will be a logical solution. Of course like (almost) every ambitious plan that take place during college year, nothing real plan nor even a single publication attempt really come out.

The Start

The start
Fast forward to present day. With the popularity of blog including their several blog engines technologies and the rising of new alternative media, We finally found a breakthrough in actually building and making a publication about mechanical engineering using these new technologies. Thus at October 2007, we finally purchase themachinery.org domain and along with this, the new publication was born, an Online Magazine dedicated to discussed all things mechanical but in the same time still carrying the core value of simplicity.

The Run

The run
TM.org Currently running a NucleusCMS on its backbone. We Choose nucleusCMS because its so small and so simple to use, backup with numerous plugins to expand the capability beyond our imagination, and so stable it's handle query after query in the most elegant way. choosing nucleusCMS simply the best decision we ever made, period.

The Host

We hosted our website in one of servers own by singcat. Elegant local hosting provider here at Jakarta. by choosing singcat, we exposing our self to around-the-clock support, reliable up-time and great level of scalability. All of this packaged in no-nonsense pricing scheme. What more can we ask?
the host
In the end, we learn valuable lesson when putting some expectation toward other. We decided to go to to other web hosting (this time Qwords), the one that really offer reliability in top priority. Moving domain and hosting from one company to other is difficult and tiresome, but we moved eventually, just for you know how bad the situation.

When you’re hiring, seek out people who are managers of one

...What’s that mean? A manager of one is someone who comes up with their own goals and executes them. They don’t need heavy direction. They don’t need daily check-ins..
But still, it's very dificult to become one :)

Solar Furnace Melts Steel, holy crap!

seeing the potential energy of the Sun:
..in the French Pyrenees, it's capable of achieving 4,352 ºF (2,400 ºC)—which, as you can see, it's enough to melt steel in a few seconds and almost disintegrate hot dogs..
This is by far the most interesting video about sun energy

Using laundromats for counter Terrorist

Smart idea from UK:
..While the laundry was indeed being washed, pressed and dry cleaned, it had one additional cycle -- every garment, sheet, glove, pair of pants, was first sent through an analyzer, located in the basement, that checked for bomb-making residue..

Not applicable in Indonesia though.
